Saravena is a Colombian municipality, the third most populous in the department of Arauca. In just over a decade it went from being an agricultural cooperative and part of the municipality of Tame to becoming a municipality in 1976. It is located 196 km from Arauca and is an important commercial center in the foothills of the Colombian plains. The Saravena landscape represents one of the most complex in terms of its biodiversity, its physiographic conformation, its cultural processes and its population dynamics.
