San Gil is a Colombian municipality located in the department of Santander. It is located on the road axis between Bucaramanga and Bogotá, and constitutes the most important urban nucleus in the south of the department of Santander. In 2004 it was designated as the Tourist Capital of the Department.
Currently, San Gil is moving towards tourism development, as it is the most positioned destination in Colombia for the development of adventure activities around the elements of water, land and air, linked to nature tourism as the country’s great commitment contemplated in the Tourism Sector Plan, due to its geographical and climatic characteristics and the vocation of its inhabitants.

San Gil has 3 urban transport companies, which have a collective urban transport service in minibuses (busetas), municipal urban transport (taxis), school or mixed service, and radio-cargo: Cootraguanenta, Cootrafonce and Cootrasangil (which has a own regional integration terminal, close to the market place).
San Gil has a modern and equipped transport center, located to the south-west of the city, at the exit to Bogotá. Among the main Companies that provide bus services are Berlinas del Fonce, Copetran, Omega and Reina. In the intermunicipal area, Cootrasangil provides its transportation services to the region and the entire province of Guanentá.
