Manizales is the capital of the department of Caldas. It is located in the center west of Colombia, in the Paisa region, on the Central Cordillera of the Andes. Manizales is part of the so-called Coffee Triangle and its metropolitan area made up of the municipalities of Manizales, Neira, Chinchiná, Villamaría and Palestina. Along with Risaralda, Quindío, the north-west of Tolima, the North of the Valley and the southwest of Antioquia, it forms part of the Colombian coffee growing axis.
