Barranquilla officially known as the Special, Industrial and Port District of Barranquilla is the capital of the department of Atlántico, and the fourth most populous city in Colombia. It is the main economic center of the Caribbean region of Colombia due to its port center and its most important economic activities are trade and industry.
Barranquilla has to transportation network called Transmetro, to metropolitan mass transportation system. The system operates with articulated buses that circulate in dedicated lanes and stop at fixed stops. Taxis have to minimum rate for distances of 3.5 km, for longer trips you have to negotiate with the driver, for example, trips to the Barranquilla airport or the Terminal de Transportes de Barranquilla, as well as night trips after 8 pm and services on holidays and Sundays, too.

Barranquilla Bus Terminal location
To the south of the city, in the municipality of Soledad, is the Terminal Metropolitana de Transportes de Barranquilla, from where you can travel by land to the main national destinations and to Venezuela.
Barranquilla’s air terminal is the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport located 7 km from the city in the neighboring municipality of Soledad.
The port area of Barranquilla comprises some 22 linear km on the western bank of the Magdalena River.
